Motorola rolls out 16,000 digital radios for Victoria’s Country Fire Authority Featured
American telecommunications equipment provider Motorola Solutions has signed a contract with Victoria’s Country Fire Authority (CFA) to roll out 16,000 new APX series P25 radios.
Motorola will upgrade and support radio equipment for CFA for 10 years as part of a $138.8 million upgrade.
The modernisation program will replace CFA’s radios used in the field, on fire trucks, in command vehicles, and within fire stations.
The package included approximately 9,000 of Motorola Solutions’ APX Next all-band smart radios. More radios will be deployed in the future, Motorola said.
According to Motorola, the radios’ SmartConnect feature facilitates the switch of voice communications from land mobile radio (LMR) to broadband networks when users move outside of radio coverage.
Its SmartMapping pinpoints the location of fighter vehicles and the voice control enables first responders to manage radio controls through voice commands.
“APX radios enable the reliable communication that’s critical for fire and emergency agencies to collaborate, particularly in the face of more frequent and severe natural disasters and other complex events,” said Motorola Solutions managing director for ANZ Con Balaskas.
The new devices will be used on the Victorian Government’s Regional Mobile Radio (RMR) and Metropolitan Mobile Radio (MMR) networks, which provide radio communications across regional, rural, and metropolitan Victoria.
Last February, Motorola provided mobile solutions to the Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland (DMTR) to increase efficiency among transport inspectors.
In December of last year, Motorola secured two radio communications services contracts worth $10 million with the NSW Government.
The New South Wales State Emergency Services (NSW SES) deployed Motorola's SmartConnect solutions to extend the reach and capacity of its mission-critical radio communications.
