Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, has built a new defence system that uses the complicated ways people remember things.

When it comes to technology, there has never been more demand for creative ways to tell the difference between fact and fiction than there is now.

Buterin’s Defense mechanism

Buterin’s idea is based on personalised security questions instead of standard security measures like passwords that are easy to figure out and general security questions. The well-known Ethereum user highlights how weak current methods are against growing deepfakes and how much they depend on something AI has difficulty mastering: the richness of human connection.

The genius hack includes questions based on shared experiences and information unique to each system user. Instead of using standard information like the name of a pet or your mother’s maiden name, users would have to find their way through a memory maze, remembering inside jokes from college or strange nicknames they had as kids.

Buterin says that his plan is vital because it focuses on things that aren’t likely to be found online or that are easy to guess. Memo Maze is an ideal tool to protect people from identity theft and scams because it uses personal information and shared memories.

He wants an all-around security plan with agreed-upon code words, minor signs of pressure, and delays in confirmation for significant Ethereum transactions. Attackers will have a more challenging time getting in as more layers are added.

The proposal is important to consider after a recent deepfake attempt on Buterin. Many experts agree that his method is unique and has a lot of promise, but some remain apprehensive about how it will be used. People worry about privacy and security when trying to keep unique questions safe. Some problems with scalability can happen, especially when dealing with big groups of people or people you don’t know online.

As for accessibility, some groups may find it hard to rely too much on shared events or remembering. Also, because AI is constantly changing, some people are worried about how well Buterin’s memory maze will work in the future.
