Hello Product Hunt Community! We are excited to introduce snippet.run, a script snippet hosting platform that allows you to run snippets on your computer with a single command

What is snippet.run

snippet.run is a platform that allows you to host your script snippets on the cloud, and run it everywhere using the snippet.run CLI

How does it work?

You host your script snippets on the cloud and use a CLI to execute them on your computer. When you run a snippet, the CLI will fetch the snippet and execute it on your local machine

Feel free to leave comments or questions. Feedback is always appreciated Thank you for your time

Excited to see a new platform for hosting and running script snippets with the convenience of a CLI! How does snippet.run ensure the security of users' code? Also, have you considered integrating with popular code editors?
This looks really interesting. How does dependency management work? E.g. if my snippet requires some npm packages, are they automatically installed?
@vincentropy Thanks for checking out our launch! Currently snippet.run does not handle dependencies, you have to handle dependencies manually in your snippet. However, we planned to add support to dependency management and multi-language soon. You will be able to declare dependencies of your snippet. Congrats on the launch, this looks quite solid! Here's some feedback since you asked.

Wow I have very mixed feelings about this honestly. The security aspect of it primarily, how can I make sure it's going to run what I think it's going to run? What happens if the snippets.run service is compromised? You should definitely add a `--dry-run` option to the CLI client at the very least, so I could see what is about to be executed before going for it.

I also wish this was somehow connected to GitHub (more than just for auth) so I could use/import my existing 19 million snippets from Gist.

Finally, a lot of snippets I currently use are really boilerplates that aren't meant to be run, but are meant to be built upon, so I would love for snippets.run to be able to download a snippet and pipe its source into a new file for example. Although that might be outside of scope.

Anyway, I absolutely love the idea though, good luck!
