Jetstar Asia Brings Qantas Executive to Take the Helm

Jetstar Asia, the Singapore-based low-cost carrier, has appointed John Simeone as its incoming CEO. Barathan Pasupathi, who has served as the airline’s CEO for 12 years, will be stepping down from his position on March 1 to pursue new opportunities.

John Simeone, presently the Senior Vice President for Asia at the parent company Qantas, brings over three decades of aviation experience to his new role. Jetstar Asia Chairman Dennis Choo highlighted Simeone’s extensive expertise in both the Singaporean and broader Asian aviation sectors.

Recently, Jetstar Asia launched new flights from Singapore to Wuxi in China’s Jiangsu province, establishing itself as the sole carrier on this route departing from Singapore.

Barathan Pasupathi had previously underscored the importance of the Chinese market for Jetstar. The airline expanded its footprint by introducing flights to Haikou early last year, emphasizing its commitment to the region.

Aside from focusing on China, Jetstar Asia responded to increased demand by reintroducing popular Japanese destinations and augmenting weekly flights to sought-after hubs.
