Using Logistics Packing Instructions in EWM Outbound Process via Unified Package Builder

Quite often there is a requirement in scenarios where the client has been heavily using the Logistics packing instructions (POP1, POP2, POF1, POF2), to continue using them rather than moving to EWM packaging specifications.

With SAP’s unified package builder, this requirement can be achieved.

Shown below are the configuration steps followed by the process flow:

Configuration Steps:

1. Define unified package building profile

Give a meaningful name and description to the package building profile. Link it to the packing transaction profile which has been used in Logistics ERP. The Logistics packing transaction profile can be found using menu path:

In case you are using Nested HU’s, then there is a possibility to select whether the outermost or the innermost packaging material is to be proposed in field “Relevant Packaging Level”.

2. Assign Package Builder Profile to Outbound Document type

2. Process Flow:

Here is the packing instruction in Logistics ERP (transaction POP3). It is a nested packing instruction having two levels. Four inner boxes each having a capacity of 50 PC, packed in 1 outer pallet.

The relevant determination records are also setup in transaction POF3.

1. Create an outbound delivery of material for 200 EA which gets distributed to EWM.

Perform picking and drop the pick HU at pack workstation.

2. Check packing proposal in “Repack Product” tab of /scwm/pack transaction

Scan the source HU, product and you will see the quantity according to packing proposal in the Quan. field

Note: – You can also immediately take over the proposed quantity in the actual quantity field by marking the “Adopt Proposed Qty” flag as “X” in the Define Work center configuration.

“<<New feature added as part of S/4 EWM 2023 – You can now immediately generate and pack into destination ship handling unit according to packing proposals of Unified package builder profile within the packing transaction. Please refer SAP Note 3301323 for further details.>>
