Updated Debian Linux 12.1 released

Kindly note that this is a point release, which means it is not a new version of Debian 12. It simply updates specific packages included in it. You don’t have to discard old “bookworm” DVDs, CDs, or USB disk media. Once you install them, you can upgrade the packages to the latest versions by utilizing an updated Debian mirror with the help of the apt command or apt-get command.

How to upgrade from Debian 12 to 12.1

A total of 140 packages are updated to fix security and other issues. Hence, it is recommended that you apply these updates to your Debian Linux 12 system to ensure that the system remains secure and stable. The complete lists of packages that have changed with this revision is published here.

Procedure

Now down the current Debian Linux minor version using the cat command or hostnamectl command:
$ cat /etc/debian_version
And:
$ hostnamectl

Also, note the the Linux kernel version:
$ uname -r
Outputs:
6.1.0-9-amd64

Now upgrade all installed packages. Type:
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt upgrade
📝 NOTE: You should only reboot the system if the APT command has created the /var/run/reboot-required file. This may indicate that a new Debian Linux kernel has been installed. See
How to find out if my Ubuntu/Debian Linux server needs a reboot
for more info.

You need to reboot the Linux system to reload the new Linux kernel. For example, just type the reboot command or shutdown command as follows:
$ sudo reboot
OR
$ sudo shutdown -r now

Verification

After rebooting the system, check your Linux kernel version and other info as follows:
$ uname -r
And:
$ hostnamectl
