@karim Unfortunately we don't have any control over that. Hopefully Mastodon makes improvements for smaller instances as we have the same issue here.

@ivory Yeah, I have a number relays pulling in from a few instances to also pull in followed hashtags, but I guess that’s the downside of smaller instances.

@ivory @karim Wanted to ask for that, too, because here on eay.social it’s just me. In Mona it‘s possible to view the trends of other instances, maybe something like this would be an option for Ivory?

@karim @ivory Unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re asking for I feel like this is a lie or maybe they just don’t know how to do this because I use @IceCubesApp for Mastodon and their Trending features pulls from the fediverse and not just my instance.

@ZeroDrek it works the same way. You are on the biggest instance. He is on a tiny one and so the results are vastly different.

@ivory @karim Perhaps I don’t understand how it works then. All I know is I see posts from across the fediverse and not only my instance under trending. How/why would it be any different from someone on a different instance if trending is showing all trending posts across every instance?

@ZeroDrek trending data is reliant on your server seeing lots of data from users on that server following other users and interacting with posts. If your server only has a couple users, there just isn’t enough for that server to have trending data.

@ZeroDrek @ivory @IceCubesApp I very much doubt they would lie about this. They either didn’t know or maybe the other apps are using a workaround.

@ivory one request after using 1.8: I want to see large thumbnails in my timeline but in discover tab I want to see smaller thumbnails in posts tab. It would be great if there is a separate option for both.
Currently, both of them are following same behaviour

@ivory Selecting the 'People' on the Explore page crashes the app. Can't relaunch it coz it defaults to that page when opened again.

@pratik Can you go to the bottom of the Support section of Ivory's settings and use the "Contact Us" button with a quick note about the crash? It should attach crash logs to the email as well so we can take a look.

@ivory I wish I could but each time I launch the app, it crashes. I may have to delete and redownload.

@pratik We noticed your server doesn't have a People tab in the Explore section. Not sure if your instance admin configured the server that way, or if it wasn't available in that specific version of Mastodon. Either way, not sure why it's crashing.

Try just restarting your device before reinstalling. Might save you some headache if that works.

@ivory I checked my server, and we do have a People tab on our server's Explore page.

@pratik Very weird. Definitely need that crash report somehow. But maybe someone else will run into the issue as well.

@ivory Wish I could help but it's a catch-22 situation. If I can recreate that crash, I can't launch the app to send the report. It happened even after I reinstalled the app after deleting it.

@chopaganda @ivory As much as I love Mona, if / when Ivory adds a few features such as quote posts, I might switch back.

@Nolasox @ivory I stopped paying for Ivory because of quote posts. It’s kind of a key feature that every other app seems to have. If they add them, I’ll give Ivory a try again. As a 10+ year Tweetbot user, it was painful to switch, but I really love Mona—especially the Mac experience.

@ivory good stuff but i generally avoid anything that tells you it costs something AFTER you sign up. Stop participating in the enshitification of the web and tell ppl it costs come thing before they send you all their data -.-

@kDelta @matt and revoke access... and yeah, it has full read access to my account so it does in fact have access to my data. anyway, don't be lame, always tell ppl it will cost something before they give you access.

@PewPewMiau @matt The App Store description does indeed mention this as well as showing the two main options, but I understand you may find it disappointing had it not been noticed If I remember correctly there is a short trial period if you want to try the app though?

@kDelta @matt yeah but it's already super disappointing to see this in the fediverse. Sure you need to earn money, development should pay off. But I hate when you realize this in later steps of the process instead of being honest right from the start.

Reading through your thread, I’m not quite sure what you were expecting. Any app that is going to be useful as a Mastodon client will have to request the exact same permissions. None of this is remotely unique nor surprising for Ivory.

@mttjj @matt I have the feeling you guys are deliberately trying not to get the point.. All I'm asking for is to tell people that it can only be used with a subscription in the longterm BEFORE they give you access. How hard is it to inform users about this on the first screen?!

@ivory Awesome release (for big instance users mostly). Hoping for some features for small/single user instances soon, like browsing other instances for example

@ivory Great Update! Small Bug: I somehow managed to get the bottom bar icon switcher to get stuck Didn’t go away by using any of the buttons or using the long press again.

@sonix yea we are aware of it. Not fixing it because we will be updating our navigation completely very soon.
