索尼在去年推出了代号为“Spartacus”的升级分层订阅服务，新服务结合了PlayStation Plus和PlayStation Now，并增加了高级服务的功能，保留PlayStation Plus品牌的同时，逐步淘汰PlayStation Now品牌。其中等级最高为Premium服务，享受串流游戏、经典游戏库及限时试玩游戏等功能。
随着微软完成了对动视暴雪（Activision Blizzard）的收购，旗下游戏加入到Xbox Game Pass也只是时间问题，这使得索尼非常担心未来PlayStation Plus的生存能力和竞争力。据Wccftech报道，索尼希望通过PlayStation Plus实现“Services 3.0”，打造成最令人兴奋、最令人向往的订阅会员服务，其中很重要的一点，就是在PlayStation 4/5以外的平台上推出PlayStation Plus，包括PC、手机和流媒体设备等，甚至将浏览器纳入其中。
索尼的新计划另外一个关键是改进订阅的内容，尤其希望能吸引更多像《堡垒之夜》这样的在线服务游戏玩家。此外，索尼还可能为Disney+、Spotify和Crunchyroll等附加服务添加更多奖励订阅，以提高PlayStation Plus的整体价值。有消息称，索尼可能寻求与亚马逊建立特定的合作关系，在FireTV电视棒甚至自家的Bravia系列电视上推出PlayStation Plus订阅服务。
虽然看起来索尼很努力，但是不确定是否能抗衡Game Pass的游戏首发加入，特别是微软已经将《使命召唤》系列收入囊中。
