There is this hype about AI everywhere, companies and individuals are constantly trying to catch up with this technology, always in constant evolution and with enormous implications for our lives.

We suddenly found ourselves with the possibility of bringing automation to many of the most repetitive tasks of our work and daily life, from writing that tedious report to getting ideas about what to cook for dinner tonight. AI has the potential to become an essential companion, capable of enhancing our productivity and improving many aspects of our lives. But, like with any new technology, risks and concerns are raised as well. What level of automation are we willing to accept without losing the fundamental fabric that makes us, humans, our reasoning and imaginative capacity?

While I write these lines, I have to fight the impulse to run everything through ChatGPT to make sure it is,… better (?). Two years ago, I relied only on a clear head, some writing skills and coffee for this, now I have this powerful tool with the capacity to make my writing clearer, simpler and more attractive while in parallel, reducing my capacity to construct ideas and do all of this in an autonomous way.

I believe the main task we have ahead of us is to define a -hopefully- fruitful relationship between us and this technology, in a way that we can leverage the full potential of automation without contributing to the deterioration of our skills and capacities. With this in mind, I wrote this article, as a way to help us understand and navigate a present and a future with AI.
