How Much I Made By Selling Digital Products for 1 year?

Roughly 14 months ago, I took a leap of faith and launched my first template: “60+ useful resources for UI/UX designers.” It’s been a roller-coaster of a journey!

To my astonishment, it became my most downloaded resource to date, boasting 2,400 downloads and a whopping $80 in donations. (Honestly, I’d have been thrilled with just a dollar!)

Since that initial launch, I’ve rolled out five digital products on Gumroad.

Today, I’m pulling back the curtain to share my earnings, the reasons behind my foray into digital products, and a step-by-step guide to help you launch your own.

Why Digital Products, You Ask?

Here are honest 2 reasons for it

1. Sharing My Journey
Initially, I questioned my own worth. Why would anyone want to learn from me? But a few enlightening videos later, I realized it’s not about knowing everything. It’s about sharing what you know, because there’s always someone a step behind in their journey, eager to learn from your experiences.

2. Passive Income
In an unpredictable world, diversifying income streams is crucial. Digital products, with their low maintenance and potential for long-term returns, seemed like the perfect avenue. Plus, who doesn’t appreciate some extra cash?

Here is how you can kickstart your Digital Product Journey

Kickstarting Your Digital Product Journey

1. Pick Your Product
From Notion Templates to eBooks, the digital realm is vast. I gravitated towards Notion Templates. They were trendy, and I had a good grasp of the platform.

2. Niche Down
Finding a niche is paramount. It streamlines marketing efforts. My audience? Budding UI/UX designers. So, when I ventured outside this niche with a Task Manager template, it didn’t resonate. Lesson learned.

3. Dive In
There was a 4-month gap between my second and third products. Why? Fear of another failed launch. But taking the plunge with my third product paid off, making it my best-seller.

4. Choose Your Platform Wisely
I’ve been loyal to Gumroad, despite their recent fee hike. If you’re starting out, consider platforms like Lemon Squeezy or Topmate.

5. Market, Market, Market
There’s no one-size-fits-all strategy. I found success on LinkedIn & Medium. But don’t shy away from platforms like Instagram or Twitter. The key? Target the right audience.

The Big Reveal: My Earnings

Drumroll, please… I made $427.11 in a year!

It might not be in the league of big influencers raking in thousands, but those monthly paychecks from Gumroad, ranging from $10 to $50, still bring a smile to my face :)

Reflections & The Road Ahead

The journey has been enlightening.

I’ve realized the importance of effective marketing and the need to act on ideas rather than just mulling them over.

My plan? Reinvest my earnings, focus on creating tailored content, and continue learning.

I really also want to launch new products but I feel I should spend some time improving the current products.

I hope my journey offers some insights for your own digital product endeavours.

Happy creating!
