More retailers will report their quarterly results on Tuesday, with earnings from Lowe's (LOW), Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS), Macy's (M), and Urban Outfitters (URBN) on tap. When it comes to economic data, all eyes will be on existing home sales. Investors will be looking to see if there is any sign more inventory is hitting the market. There are also a number of Federal Reserve officials speaking, including Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin and Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee, who spoke to Yahoo Finance last month.

DIANE KING HALL: A slew of earnings on tap for Tuesday. We'll hear more about the state of the consumer, an interesting data point here. The retail companies have already reported 79% of announced profit beats, according to the London Stock Exchange Group.

Tomorrow, we'll get results from Macy's, Lowe's, Urban Outfitters, and Dick's Sporting Goods. Apart from earnings, we're looking at some housing data. Existing home sales out tomorrow. The Street is forecasting a seasonally adjusted rate of 4.15 million units in July. That's nearly in line with June's numbers.

And finally, it's a big week for the Fed. We'll hear from a number of officials Tuesday in advance of the Fed's big economic summit at Jackson Hole later this week. Tom Barkin, Austan Goolsbee, and Michelle Bowman are all expected to speak at different events on Tuesday. The Street is waiting for any hints about where rates are heading and the state of the economy.
