SEGA Finalizes Acquisition of Struggling Angry Birds Developer Rovio
- SEGA purchased Rovio, the Finnish Angry Birds’ creator, for €706 million ($776 million), after the company’s struggles with profitability.
- Rovio had previously been valued at around $1 billion and received bids from multiple companies including an $800 million offer from Israeli mobile company Playtika.
- Joining SEGA’s portfolio, it’s uncertain whether the studio will continue Angry Birds or develop new IPs amidst a challenging mobile gaming market.
