GUEST EVENT: Each year, TelSoc hosts the Henry Sutton Oration in Melbourne to commemorate the distinguished but scarcely known Victorian scientist, engineer and inventor from Ballarat. Please join us for TelSoc’s Henry Sutton Oration for 2023 on Wednesday, 30 August.

The Henry Sutton Oration is named after Henry Sutton, a prolific Victorian inventor and innovator. His many accomplishments are detailed in a book by Lorayne Branch (his great granddaughter), Henry Sutton the Innovative Man.

This year's Orator is David Tudehope:

David Tudehope is CEO and cofounder of Macquarie Technology Group. He will be sharing his experience in the telecommunications industry since 1992, when Macquarie Technology Group was launched, and, in line with the Henry Sutton theme of innovation, sharing his insights on the industry today and into the future.

Today, Macquarie Technology Group provides cyber security, cloud and data centre services to government, as well as data, voice, mobile and colocation services.

About the speaker, David Tudehope:

Tudehope has been a director of Macquarie and its predecessor companies since 16 July 1992. He is responsible for overseeing the general management and strategic direction of the group and is actively involved in the Group’s participation in regulatory issues.

He is a member of the Australian School of Business Advisory Council at the University of NSW and was a member of the Australian Government’s B20 Leadership Group. David holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of NSW.

In 2011, the Australian Telecommunication Users Group awarded David the Charles Todd Medal for leadership in the telecom industry (this medal is now a TelSoc award).

In 2018, at the 12th Annual ACOMM telecom industry awards, David received the highest award, Australian Communications Ambassador.

In 2020, Macquarie Technology Group took double gold at the annual World Communications Awards 2020. The company received the award for the best Customer Experience and David won CEO of the Year.

David is also part of the Federal Government's Cyber Security Industry Advisory Committee to guide implementation of the 2020 Cyber Security Strategy.
