Kyrie Irving’s Stepmom Shetellia Riley Irving Reportedly Set To Become The First Black Woman To Negotiate And Complete An NBA Contract
market rally as AI
Kyrie Irving’s decision to hire his stepmom Shetellia Riley Irving seems to have paid off so far.
As AfroTech previously told you in a 2022 report, Shetellia had been hired as the agent of the former Brooklyn Nets player.
As a result, she became the only Black woman known to be representing an active NBA player, per sports reporter Shams Charania.
Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving has hired Shetellia Riley Irving as his new agent. Shetellia Riley Irving is believed to currently be the only Black woman representing an active NBA player.

“We’ve built trust and consistency,” Shetellia told Sports Illustrated in 2022. “I don’t want Kyrie to come back two years from now saying ‘I signed this really bad deal and it didn’t make sense,’ because he didn’t understand it, or it was just about a money grab. That’s something that we’re really being intentional about, especially in the things that we look to align ourselves with.”
In February 2023, Kyrie was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks.
Now, it’s said that Kyrie will remain with the Dallas Mavericks.
The Guardian reports the NBA player has agreed to a three-year contract, valued at $126 million, which includes a player option for the third season.

Additionally, CBS 42 reports Kyrie and Shetellia intended to meet with other teams.
“We planned to take the meetings but decided that Dallas would be our place,” Shetellia told CBS Sports, according to Bill Reiter.
While Kyrie Irving had planned earlier in the day to meet with several teams about free agency, Dallas' 3-year, $126 million offer changed those plans. "We planned to take the meetings but decided that Dallas would be our place," his agent Shetellia Riley Irving told @CBSSports.

While details cannot be confirmed until the free agency moratorium lifts, per The Dallas Morning News, the deal would reportedly make Shetellia the first Black woman to negotiate and complete an NBA contract.
