NEC picks Perth for digital government centre of excellence Featured

NEC Australia's new centre of excellence in digital government will be located in Perth.
"I'm really pleased to announce that our Australian centre of excellence for digital government will be based right here in Perth," said NEC Australia CEO Jason Price.
"A key factor in our decision to select Perth was the significant resources and experience we have working alongside the Western Australian Government on a range of critical projects, and a shared appetite to improve outcomes and interactions between their citizens and agencies.
"NEC has been a major services provider to the Western Australian Government over many years and has deep knowledge of our customers' issues and recognition of the maturity of many government agencies in their digital transformation journey.
"Working closely with our global centre of excellence in Denmark, Perth is perfectly placed to drive expansion across the nation and demonstrate NEC's digital government capabilities at scale."
The WorkZone case management as a service product is a central plank of NEC's digital government efforts.
Developed by Danish company KMD – which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of NEC – WorkZone "reshapes the way citizens and government interact with services and each other," according to NEC.
NEC notes that Denmark has for some time been recognised by the United Nations as the leading provider of digital government services to its citizens. More than 70% of the Danish Government's processes run on WorkZone, and it is used by more than five million Danes.
Benefits of WorkZone include reduced processing times for sharing information between jurisdictions, and increases productivity.
The centre should be in operation in mid-August, and will increase NEC's WA headcount to more than 100.
Another 100 staff around Australia support the WA team in areas including service desk, ICT support, sales and sales support, finance, marketing, communications, and HR.
