On Monday, Chinese video platform Bilibili celebrated its 14th birthday and CEO Chen Rui revealed a significant update to the platform's performance indicators. As a result of its emphasis on presenting lengthy and in-depth content, Bilibili will now shift away from counting traditional views and instead measure the amount of time users spend watching videos.

This shift is expected to promote such content and enhance user experience. Bilibili stated that the new metrics would more accurately reflect user engagement. 

The platform previously introduced a TikTok-like story mode, which generated substantial video views but also garnered mixed reactions from users. Bilibili's financial report for Q1 2023 highlighted an 82% year-on-year increase in daily views from vertical mode.

CEO Chen shared additional data on video creators and commercialization, revealing that since 2018, Bilibili has invested 2.24 billion RMB ($31.07 million) to support 1.1 million content creators.

Despite its ongoing efforts to achieve profitability, Bilibili's net loss in Q1 2023 decreased by 72% compared to the same period of last year, as stated in its financial report released on June 1.
