Sabrina Meng of Huawei spoke at MWC Shanghai 2023 about the importance of 5G and the next iteration

Mobile World Congress is back in Shanghai today. Sabrina Meng, who became Huawei's Rotating Chairwoman  beginning in April, talked about her thoughts on 5G at the opening keynotes.

"5G has been in commercial use around the world for four years now. It's driving new value creation, and 5.5G is the next step forward," said Meng.

Huawei says that 5G isn't just about making connections faster; it's also about using new and high-quality practices that need to send large amounts of data in real time. This time at MWC Shanghai, Huawei showed off some new user-facing technologies, like real-time 3D that can be seen with the naked eye and better video talking with simultaneous caption and special effect.

During the speech, Meng also gave hints about what comes after 5G, which Huawei calls 5.5G. In short, 5.5G will have downlink speeds of 10 gigabits, uplink speeds of 1 gigabit, the ability to handle 100 billion connections, and built-in artificial intelligence. It will not only help people connect better, but it will also open up amazing new business possibilities by providing more focused support for industrial needs in areas like the Internet of Things (IoT), sensing, and advanced manufacturing.

Meng talked about two different kinds of skills that are integrated to support the development of 5G. "The first is integrating different technologies. We can achieve greater synergy across cloud, networks, edge, and devices through systematic design and cross-domain innovation. When coupled with optimization across software, hardware, chips, and algorithms, we can address the challenges associated with developing complex solutions for vastly different industrial scenarios."

"The second," she went on, is the ability to integrate different approaches to management. Digital and intelligent transformation is not just about technology itself. It's more about transforming your approach to management. Going digital requires redefining the relationships between people, events, things, and theory, and adopting a more open, forward-looking management approach to address future challenges.“

Meng came to this conclusion: "Information technologies like 5G, 5.5G, AI, and cloud will help us rise with the tide and take us forward to an intelligent world. The best scenery is always ahead. Let's create a bright future together."
