The Washington Post has announced that Fred Ryan (Frederick J. Ryan, Jr.), it’s Publisher and chief executive, will be stepping down to lead a newly formed Center on Public Civility at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation. Although he will continue to serve as publisher until August, his departure marks the end of his nine-year tenure as Publisher and CEO of The Washington Post. Jeff Bezos said Monday that his “longtime friend and colleague” Patty Stonesifer will take over as interim CEO. Ryan will remain as a publisher through August.

Patty Stonesifer has been appointed as the interim CEO of The Washington Post. In this role, she will oversee the transition and lead the search process for a new Publisher and CEO for the organization. Patty Stonesifer brings extensive experience to the position, having previously served as the founding CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and holding executive positions at Microsoft.
