YouTube to Stop Removing Content Denying 2020 US Election Result
(Bloomberg) -- YouTube will stop taking down content that promotes false claims about the 2020 US presidential election, marking an about-face by the world’s largest video site as the next American presidential contest begins heating up.
Most Read from Bloomberg
The division of Alphabet Inc.’s Google said the new policy will take effect on Friday.
“In the current environment, we find that while removing this content does curb some misinformation, it could also have the unintended effect of curtailing political speech without meaningfully reducing the risk of violence or other real-world harm,” the company said in a blog post. “With that in mind, and with 2024 campaigns well underway, we will stop removing content that advances false claims that widespread fraud, errors, or glitches occurred in the 2020 and other past US presidential elections.”
YouTube and other social media companies have been under pressure since the 2016 US presidential election to ensure their platforms are not manipulated to spread political misinformation. YouTube said in December that it had taken down more than 10,000 videos related to the US midterm elections for violating its policies on election integrity and other guidelines. Some of those videos were removed for promoting the falsehood that the 2020 US presidential election was stolen.
YouTube said Friday it would continue to ban content that misleads people about how to vote, advances false information that could dissuade people from voting, and promotes interference with elections. Axios earlier reported the company’s policy shift.

US hiring jumped last month. So did unemployment. Here's what that says about the economy
The nation’s employers stepped up their hiring in May, adding a robust 339,000 jobs, well above expectations and evidence of enduring strength in an economy that the Federal Reserve is desperately trying to cool. Friday's report from the government reflected the job market's resilience after more than a year of aggressive interest rate increases by the Fed. Notably, the unemployment rate rose to 3.7%, from a five-decade low of 3.4% in April.

Disney lawsuit judge removes himself from case but not for reasons cited by DeSantis
A federal judge overseeing the First Amendment lawsuit that Walt Disney Parks filed against Gov. Ron DeSantis and others is disqualifying himself, but not because of bias claims made by the Florida governor. Chief U.S. District Judge Mark Walker said in a court filing Thursday that it was because a relative owns 30 shares of Disney stock. The governor's lawyers had filed a motion to disqualify Walker last month because he had referenced the ongoing dispute between the DeSantis administration and Disney during hearings in two unrelated lawsuits before him dealing with free speech issues and fear of retaliation for violating new laws championed by the governor and Republican lawmakers.

Friday's Jobs Report May Be A Game-Changer For The Fed, S&P 500. Here Are Four Reasons Why.
Note to readers: This jobs preview story hasn't been updated since the May jobs report was released on Friday morning. A Federal Reserve rate hike on June 14 still may hinge on Friday's jobs report, though it might take a really strong report to prompt another tightening. Coming as Fed tightening via a shrinking balance sheet is about to dry up liquidity after the debt-ceiling deal, higher rates could squeeze the life out of the current S&P 500 rally.

Gold slips as yields gain after US payrolls rise
Gold slipped on Friday as hotter-than-expected U.S. jobs data lifted Treasury yields, but was on track for a weekly gain as a higher unemployment reading kept alive hopes that the Federal Reserve would pause interest rate hikes. U.S. nonfarm payrolls grew by 339,000 in May, beating expectations for an increase of 190,000, but the unemployment rate rose to 3.7% from a 53-year low of 3.4% in April. Benchmark 10-year Treasury yields rose, and the dollar ticked up, making the greenback-priced, zero-interest-bearing bullion less attractive.

Blinken warns Ukraine cease-fire now would result in ‘Potemkin peace,' legitimizing Russian invasion
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Friday that the United States and its allies should not support a cease-fire or peace talks to end the war in Ukraine until Kyiv gains strength and can negotiate on its own terms. As an anticipated Ukrainian counteroffensive appeared to be taking shape, Blinken said heeding calls from Russia and others, including China, for negotiations now would result in a false “Potemkin peace” that wouldn't secure Ukraine’s sovereignty or enhance European security.

The Labor Market Is Still Strong. A Fed Pause Is in Doubt.
The result is a remarkably resilient labor market that is nonetheless beginning to see a bit of relief from what has been two years of overwhelming tightness, potentially because a draw-down in excess savings is driving more Americans searching for paychecks. It suggests that the Federal Reserve’s efforts to cool price growth are having at least some effect—but the economy is likely to keep humming as long as workers are getting paid. The mixed picture presents something of a quandary for the Fed, which would like to see job growth slow from current levels but which will be encouraged by the slowdown in wage inflation.

Stellantis does not need Italy among its shareholders, Chairman Elkann says
Stellantis does not need the Italian state as a shareholder as the carmaker is in good shape, its Chairman John Elkann said on Thursday, responding to business lobby calls for Italy to invest directly in the group. Paolo Scudieri, who heads the Italian automotive association ANFIA, was quoted in Il Sole 24 Ore earlier on Thursday saying that it was "necessary" and "right" for Rome to directly invest in Stellantis as a counterweight to the shareholding of the French state. The French government, a former investor in Peugeot maker PSA which in 2021 merged with Fiat Chrysler to form Stellantis, is now a "relevant" shareholder in the Franco-Italian carmaker with around a 6% stake.

Outsized US job gains may mask signs of weakness
But details beneath the headline number may, if sustained, point to some of the first cracks in a labor market that has defied expectations through much of the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The unemployment rate rose by what is a comparatively large three-tenths of a percentage point, from 3.4% to 3.7%, a level of change not seen, outside the onset of the pandemic, in more than a decade during the sluggish recovery from the 2007-2009 recession. Notably, the burden fell disproportionately on Black workers, who accounted for almost half the increase in the number of unemployed and who saw their unemployment rate climb nearly a full percentage point, to 5.6% from 4.7%, the biggest jump in 11 years.
