Back in March 2023, the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U and 3DS game consoles was officially closed. Many users believed that the company will stop issuing system patches since the store is now closed. After all, there isn’t much of a need for stability updates now that users can’t access the online store. However, Nintendo just released a surprise update for the 3DS. Despite the update release, players seem unhappy with it.

Surprise 3DS Update

Gizchina News of the week

The 3DS’s eShop is no longer open for users to buy new games. But the most recent firmware upgrade stops users from hacking the device to run pirated titles. This is why many players are not happy with the update. Gamers thought Nintendo would continue to support the 3DS, but that wasn’t the case. Even though Nintendo still sells some 3DS games in physical form, many independent and digital – only games are no longer active after the eShop closes. Unless users have the cash to buy through scalpers, this upgrade now makes it harder to save these games.

Users berates surprise 3DS Update

On different social platforms, Nintendo users are advising others not to download the most recent update if they haven’t cracked the 3DS on the Internet. They claim that there is no need to download the update since it blocks users from playing pirated games.

Though it’s not clear why Nintendo would release an update for a system it no longer supports, those who have already hacked their consoles can do so without risk. Some players claim that the update altered system choices, web browsers, the home screen, and even the closed shop. With that in mind, it appears that the update is solely to stop users from hacking the device. However, there is no official confirmation from Nintendo in this regard. Whatever the case, many Nintendo fans’ displeasure has only increased as a result of recent developments.
