Carl Pei confirms Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC

Back in February, Nothing confirmed that a Snapdragon 8 series chip would power the Phone (2), but it didn't reveal if it was an existing chip or one that would be launched in the future. A Qualcomm exec in a social media post said it would be the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, but the post was later edited to remove the mention of that chip. However, we've now got final confirmation that the Nothing Phone (2) will have the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 at the helm after all.

The confirmation comes from Nothing founder Carl Pei on Twitter, where he also revealed the reasons behind choosing the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC for the Phone (2). Pei said the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will bring a performance boost, but it's "not just about speed – it's about the complete package" since "Opting for a Snapdragon 8 Series rather than 7 Series brings significant improvements across the board including battery life, network connectivity, and camera capabilities, among others."

Pei also said that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was chosen because "it’s best-in-class when it comes to power consumption and heat management." Plus, it ensures that "Phone (2) remains accessible while delivering a significantly improved experience compared to Phone (1)." The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is an old chip, and going with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 would've increased the phone's price. You can read the entire Twitter thread here by Pei explaining the rationale behind opting for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 for the Nothing Phone (2).
