E-commerce giant Alibaba’s cloud computing division, known as Alibaba Cloud, plans to give discounts to international clients of up to 40% in a bid to expand quicker overseas, the firm announced in a Monday press release. The move follows the company’s biggest-ever price cut on core domestic cloud products and services. Alibaba Cloud currently faces stagnant revenue growth, recording just a 3% increase in the fourth quarter last year. Despite holding the largest share of the cloud computing market in China, Alibaba Cloud faces tough competition from state-owned cloud platforms and rivals such as Huawei Cloud. Alibaba Cloud’s overseas market size has grown by a factor of more than 20 in the past five years, to serve more than 4 million enterprise clients globally, including more than one-third of the world’s top 500 companies.
