Tencent Cloud announced price cuts on multiple core products on Tuesday, with some lines seeing a reduction of up to 40%. The price cuts are set to take effect from June 1 and follow Alibaba Cloud’s April 26 announcement of wide-ranging price reductions of up to 50% across its core products and services. Tencent’s move may signal that Alibaba Cloud’s biggest-ever reductions are set to spark a price war in China’s cloud computing sector. China’s cloud services market reached $18.84 billion in the second half of 2022, with Alibaba Cloud, Huawei Cloud, China Telecom’s eSurfing Cloud, Tencent Cloud, and AWS ranking as the top five providers, according to market intelligence service IDC.
