Asus announces a pair of GeForce RTX 4090 cards featuring compact designs
TechSpot is celebrating its 25th anniversary. TechSpot means tech analysis and advice you can trust.

In brief: Asus has unveiled a pair of GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards designed for smaller form factor builds where real estate is scarce. Both cards are listed on Asus' website but as of writing, neither has a price attached or appears to be available to purchase.

The Asus ROG Strix LC GeForce RTX 4090 video card uses the same pump, radiator, and fan combo that cooled Asus' liquid cooled GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. The full-size cold plate covers both the GPU core and the card's memory, and there's even a blower style fan to keep the power delivery components cool.

Spec-wise, the 2.6-slot card uses a 240mm radiator with 540m long tubing and twin 120mm ARGB fans. The fan cables are routed under the mesh sleeves covering the liquid tubing and connect directly to the card for a cleaner install. The card also includes two additional PWM headers, allowing you to run case fans in tune with GPU temperatures.

Those seeking a bit more performance might be interested in the OC version. As the name suggests, this model ships with a slightly higher clock speed.

The TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 OC, meanwhile, is a fully air cooled solution. It utilizes three Axial-tech fans, with the center one rotating in the opposite direction, which Asus claims creates less turbulence and fan noise. When temperatures drop below 50C, all three fans will stop spinning to cut back on noise. Once temps hit 55C, the fans will spin back to life.

The card utilizes a 3.2-slot design and features military-grade capacitors and other components for added durability.

If you are in the marketing for a watercooled RTX 4090 and do not want to wait around for Asus, perhaps a custom solution is worth a look. Earlier this year, Optimum Tech used an Alphacool ES water block to significantly reduce the footprint of an RTX 4090 from Inno3D. MSI's Suprim Liquid X might also be worth checking out if you would prefer an AIO solution.
