Apple has brought its flagship video and audio apps – Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro – to the iPad. But you'll have to accept subscription pricing if you want to use them.
Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad take advantage of the iPad's multi-touch interface as well as more-familiar keyboard operation..
Final Cut Pro for iPad includes the ability to draw or write on top of video content, and it handles HDR video, colour grading, recording in ProRes, multicam video editing, and provides AI-powered background removal, auto cropping and voice isolation.
A library of graphics, effects and audio includes HDR backgrounds, and soundtracks that automatically adjust to the length of a video.
Supported media can be imported from Files or Photos, and saved within the Final Cut Pro project. Final Cut Pro for iPad can import projects from iMovie for iOS, and export to Final Cut Pro for Mac.
Final Cut Pro requires an iPad with an M1 (or later) chip, and some features have more specific hardware or software requirements.
Logic Pro for iPad is said to combine the power of Logic Pro with the portability of iPad to unlock an all-in-one professional music creation app.
The multi-touch interface helps with music creation and editing, and is bolstered by support for Apple Pencil and keyboards.
Apple draws attention to the iPad Pro's "five studio-quality mics" for recording.
There's an an all-new sound browser, and the app includes more than 100 instruments and effects plug-ins.
Samples, program beats and bass lines can be manipulated, while the mixer "gives users everything they need to create a professional mix entirely on iPad," according to Apple.
Roundtrip editing is supported across Logic Pro for Mac and iPad. GarageBand for iOS projects can be imported, and finished Logic Pro songs can be exported in various audio formats or as individual audio track stems.
Soundtracks created in Logic Pro for iPad can be exported to Final Cut Pro for iPad.
Logic Pro for iPad requires an A12 Bionic chip or later. Some features have more specific hardware or software requirements.

"With a powerful set of intuitive tools designed for the portability, performance and touch-first interface of iPad, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro deliver the ultimate mobile studio."
Both of these new apps will be available from the App Store starting 23 May 2023.
But it will not be possible to purchase them outright. Instead, each app is available for $7.99 a month or $59 a year, with automatic renewal at the selected rate until cancelled.
