Apple will reportedly bring a new Apple Maps Live Activity to all iPhones with iOS 17. The new Lock Screen layout will show the date and time at the top and the navigation directions on the display’s bottom half.

Your unread notification count, flashlight, and camera app shortcuts will appear below it. A swipe-up on the Lock Screen will expand the Notification Center and show all notifications.

Leaker @analyst941 shared a couple of renders of the new Apple Maps Live Activity in iOS 17. Seemingly, you can minimize maps to the size of the music player widget on the Lock Screen. And a single tap will expand it again.

If the renders are accurate, the new Apple Maps Lock Screen view in iOS 17 will look notably different from Apple’s current implementation.

The Map displayed on the Lock Screen won’t be interactive. It will keep updating to show your current location and the navigation direction though.

Apple is unlikely to enable this new Lock Screen Live Activity for Google Maps and third-party navigation apps in iOS 17.

Apple Maps had a bumpy start. Even now, depending on where you live, its data could be inferior to Google Maps and Waze. But if you are a fan of Apple’s mapping solution, check out some secret Apple Maps features.

iOS 17 is a month away from its official announcement

iOS 17 is rumored to bring new Lock Screen features, including the ability to share your customizations. While the OS might not have any headlining new features, it will reportedly pack several long-requested enhancements and additions.

Apple will officially unveil iOS 17 at WWDC23 on June 10. With a month left for the event, expect more iOS 17 leaks to pop up before then.
