Support is great. Feedback is even better.
"Thanks for checking out our launch! We’d love to hear your feedback and answer any questions you have about the product, our future roadmap, or anything else!"
As Head of Product and Revenue at Tinder, I oversaw the team that managed our relationship with AWS and the significant cloud spend that accompanied it. It took an entire team and thousands of man hours every year for us to reign in our cloud costs—despite those efforts, we still faced uncertainty whether we had missed anything—which we undoubtedly did.
With Antimetal, that all changes.
If you're an AWS customer, this is one of those no-brainer solutions once you discover it.
With AWS On-Demand pricing, you have no long term commitments and maximum flexibility based on your usage — but you'll pay an arm and a leg.
With AWS Reserved, AWS instances are basically set aside just for you — for periods of 2-3 years. So you might pay less but you're locked into a long term commitment. If you're a startup, your needs may change and so you can't risk taking the long term bet just to save some money.
Enter Antimetal: they use AI to analyze your AWS usage and procure services only based on what you need, saving you money and avoiding long term lock-in.
They're able to do this by creating a secondary marketplace for your Reserved contracts — and they automate the buying, selling, and transferring of these commitments among their customers.
Win-win-win.
And, best of all — it's free for startups for the first year, and then after that, Antimetal takes its cut from the money they save you.
Like I said: no-brainer! 🧠
Thanks @chrismessina for hunting Antimetal!
We designed Antimetal specifically to address the challenges you mentioned with AWS pricing options, especially the importance of flexibility for startups and the risk of long-term commitments. I truly believe it’s a win-win-win situation.
Congratulations on the launch of Antimetal 🎉
The features you've outlined sound incredibly helpful for anyone managing AWS costs, and I'm sure many businesses will appreciate the potential for significant savings. Your AI-driven engine and Autopilot feature seem like real game-changers!
I do have a question: How does Antimetal handle sudden spikes in usage or unexpected changes in resource demands, especially when it comes to making recommendations and executing them automatically?
Wishing you all the best with your launch and continued growth! 🚀
@vera_mur Thanks, Vera! Excellent question, this is something I've thought a lot about.
If you have a large increase in usage, Antimetal will automatically purchase additional reserved instances/savings plans to cover that new spike in usage; and if you ever have a big downward spike, we can automatically sell those reservations to other customers on Antimetal or on the AWS marketplace. One of our big innovations is an online marketplace algorithm which resizes and re-lists savings infrastructure on the marketplace to make it sell up to 3x faster than normal.
That said, for companies looking to dramatically scale down their infrastructure, Autopilot may not be a good solution, but you can still manually approve specific recommendations in the dashboard. This allows you to experience savings with more control.
In the near future, we plan to offer additional configurations for Autopilot to make it best suited to your specific needs (scheduling, instance-specific rules, etc.)
@vera_mur That’s something we’ve put a lot of thought into addressing. Sudden spikes in usage and changes in resource demands are definitely something that we have worked hard to solve.
When resources change, Antimetal will automatically adjust in real time, purchasing or selling reserved instances to match the workload. We’re able to quickly transfer commitments to our other customers or resize and re-list them on the marketplace to sell quicker when they become under-utilized. That said, in extreme cases, we won’t cover certain instances or spikes in usage that we aren’t confident we can cover.
As @shreyasiyer said, there is also the option to manually approve savings recommendations based on internal forecasts or when downscaling resources dramatically and we have exciting things in the pipeline to make autopilot intelligently and accurately adapt to a wider spectrum of usage trends.
@ed_forson Thanks, Eddie! As @sohamparkeh mentioned, we've built Antimetal to work for anyone and everyone. Whether you have a few instances or a few thousand instances, Antimetal can help you cut your cloud bill significantly!
