4 Podcast to Help Get the Creative Vibes Flowing

Ahoy hoy friend! When sitting at work pecking away at the keyboard nothing helps past the time like a good podcast. Over the years I have found a few good ones that I would like to share with you.

The Big Two

These 2 podcasts you probably already have heard of and might listen to now. I still want to mention them just in case you haven’t heard of them as these podcasts are USDA Certified fresh!

99% percent invisible

When you first start to learn design you slowly come to the realization that everything around you is designed.

These everyday designs that the majority of the world never notice is the premise behind 99% Percent Invisible. Hosted by Roman Mars episodes are between 30–60 in length, perfect for your daily commute. 99% Percent Invisible has won several awards since starting in 2010.

The Futur

Now I first learned about The Futur on Youtube.

I started watching Chris Do’s videos a few years back when starting out freelancing as a photographer. Over time I started to listen to his podcasts as well and saying I have learned a lot from him would be an understatement.

Chris is provides well throughout and insightful conversations with people from the design community. Most episodes focus on the business part of design, but Chris does delve into philosophy and personal development as well.

Episodes are usually around an hour in length. If you are a freelancer or someone who runs an agency I highly recommend checking out The Futur.

The secret stash

These 2 podcasts may not have the following 99% percent invisible or The Futur, but I definitely recommend them.

UI Breakfast

UI breakfast is a good little podcast hosted by Jane Portman. Most episodes involve Jane and a guest talking about topics involving UI and UX design.

Episodes range between 30 to 60 mins. This podcast is a little more low-key than some other podcast you might find. Personally, I love to put on an episode when I get some quiet time in the morning when it’s just me my thoughts, and a cup of coffee.

Make art not content

I know there is a difference between art and design, but I feel that every designer is an artist but not every artist is a designer if that makes sense.

Just like artist designers can get in their own way whether it be a lack of motivation or struggling with perfectionism. This is where Make Art Not Content comes in.

I recently discovered Make Art Not Content and let me tell you it was a kick in the teeth for me. Hosted by Father Bronques this podcast puts together short but concise personal stories and lessons that really make you think.

And when I say think I don't mean thinking about if you should change the color of a button, but makes you think about your life as a designer. This podcast can really put you in deep thought. I love it myself.

In a Nutshell

These are some of the podcasts that I recommend you check out. Some of these may not be for you and that is totally fine. Tell me what podcast do you like to listen to? What do you like in a podcast? I look forward to hearing from you.
