If the 12.9 included a keyboard, it would be a sweet deal. They want to make this look like its a viable alternative or a Mac or PC notebook. But we all know, if it doesn't come with a keyboard its still just a big old consumption device.

If they could just put face ID on the Air and give it more storage.

Even with the discount, these are ludicrous prices for most casual and even prosumer users. iPads Pros are literally selling at Macbook Pro 13" prices.

Just glancing at these "low prices" just cracks me up. We are in an era where a small tablet is near $2000 with taxes, etc. Just insane prices for the type of use they see. Their "target demo" as someone said. Maybe there's more 10%'rs out there than we think. Otherwise, I feel bad for the college kid or MCDs fry cook eating ramen so he can have one of these.

Still expensive for what we are getting. It will take a form factor revamp to make it horizontal and better software to make me change my old iPad Pro 4th Gen.

Apple needs to get their pricing under control. What they charge for storage and RAM upgrade is absolutely absurd and insulting.

Yes I know RAM isn’t an upgrade here but technically it is as the 1 TB has 16 GB of RAM versus 8 for lower storage

If upgrading every 2-3 years it’s best to stick with the base storage as resale or trade-in value is not justified when storage size increases you get about half or less the price of the storage upgrade price. For example base model with 128GB $799 and 256 $899 with trade-in it’s usually 128GB $450 and $500 for 256GB. This is just an approximate but I have found the base storage to work out best unless you need more and plan on keeping it for 4+ years.

Yup you’re absolutely right. Apple or whatever company handles trade-ins barely care about upgraded specs from the base when calculating values.

Apple should bump the base RAM on AppleSilicon to from 8GB to 12GB and making the lineup 12-16-24GB or 12-24-32GB.

iPad design is basically a picture frame or slim bezel display what more could be improved moving the FaceTime camera around, how about two or more cameras for depth effect or software correcting to make it seem like it’s centred. Add more speakers. Where would you suggest the iPad Pro improve other than an OLED screen, Center camera and possibly more speakers. Please don’t say DI 😝

Yup. I can accept high base prices because imo their products really are worth it, but their RAM and storage upgrade prices on every product line they have are just insane. We're literally talking charges close to 10x what Apple themselves pay. And it's not just rich YouTubers who need these high-end 64GB/8TB machines, either. A lot of developers who make the Apple ecosystem what it is are getting screwed.

I still have my iPad Pro 12.9” 4th gen that does everything I need it to do but I might be looking to upgrade by the end of the year. For the one that I’d want, it would be the 1TB 12.9” for that sweet, sweet 16GB RAM. Seeing as I always get the cellular version of iPads it would cost around $2,000 (after taxes) which is just insane money for a tablet. I see here that Amazon has discounted the price by a couple hundred dollars but I think I’d rather finance through AT&T than put that much money upfront.

Even still, I’m not in huge rush but I’m sure they are great devices. Having 5G connectivity and 10GB more RAM over the 4th generation are what intrigues me the most for long term usability.

According to a lot of people here on MR, Apple needs to get its act together with the iPad, Mac Pro, Iphone camera, Siri, HomePod, iMac, Monitors, AirTags, Music app, and cleaning clothes. I think the only thing I haven't heard complaining about (yet) are the new M2 Macbook Pros. Yet Apple sales seem to still be doing alright, despite needing to get its act together.

This is Apple's iPad revenue over the last 13 years. Despite more than doubling average prices, revenue has remained nearly flat. So unit sales are clearly down. The iPad clearly still has a market, but maybe pricing really is out of whack. It's still the best device on the market, and people love to consume content on it. But the demand just hasn't kept pace with other Apple devices, where revenues went up, unit sales went up, but prices remained at pace with inflation.

I.e. people loved buying $1800 macbook pros in 2010, and they still love buying $2500 macbook pros today. People loved buying $329 iPads in 2010, and not so much with $1400 units today.

In 2010, the cheaper of the only two iPads available was $499, so I would imagine people would've loved to only spend $329 on a brand new iPad, but it didn't happen. And if people don't want to spend $1400 on an iPad today, they can buy a base model pro for $799, or an iPad Air for $599, or an iPad (10th gen) for $449 (cheaper and more powerful than 2010 iPads). Or they can spend $329, like you suggested they did 13 years ago, and get an iPad (9th gen). Again cheaper and more powerful than 13 years ago.

You might want to check out Chris Lawley’s YouTube channel, especially his video on pro apps that cover over 30 professions. You’re just blinded by people who are obsessed with Final Cut Pro being the sole arbiter of pro-ness. Sorry, Resolve is not the only one. Only reason I mentioned that was recency. It just came out and it emphasizes that it works better with the M-series.

Actually, I am a Premiere user. But back to Lawleys channel, do you have a specific video that shows these pro apps. I clicked on some of them and he seems to keep needing to explain why he uses an iPad instead of a computer. The apps he was using were things I use on my phone.
