Apple Discreetly Removes Bitcoin White Paper from MacOS: Uncovering the Mystery

In a surprising revelation, it has been discovered that Apple has secretly included the Bitcoin white paper in all versions of its Mac operating system since 2018. However, recent reports suggest that the world’s largest tech company has now removed the Bitcoin white paper from the latest beta version of its operating system upgrade.

On April 25th, the Apple-focused news platform 9to5Mac reported that Apple had removed a test scanner app called Virtual Scanner II in the latest MacOS Ventura 13.4 beta. Subsequently, the Bitcoin white paper, which was found within the app, has also vanished. 

This discovery came after an April 5th blog post from technologist Andy Baio, who unveiled that a PDF copy of Satoshi Nakamoto‘s Bitcoin white paper had been discreetly shipped with every copy of MacOS for the past five years.

The inclusion of the Bitcoin white paper within Virtual Scanner II in MacOS remained a mystery, with many speculating it was “just a joke among Apple engineers.” However, as reported by Apple Insider, various conspiracy theories have also emerged, including one that suggests Apple co-founder Steve Jobs could be Satoshi Nakamoto himself.

Apple’s Decision to Remove the White Paper

Despite the humorous nature of the inclusion, Apple has decided to remove the document from the latest version of the Mac operating system. The white paper was discovered in a folder within the Image Capture app, alongside other seemingly random files such as PDFs and images. 

Commenting on the removal, 9to5Mac stated: “This pretty much confirms our original theory that both the Bitcoin white paper and the internal tool were never meant to be found by regular users.”

Apple’s decision to remove the Bitcoin white paper from its latest MacOS version marks the end of a mysterious and intriguing era for the tech giant. 

Although the inclusion of the document was likely never intended for public discovery, it has certainly sparked conversation and fueled conspiracy theories.
