Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 charging speed will disappoint again

Galaxy Z Flip5

The smartphone business is doing impressive wonders when it comes to fast-charging speed. This year, we saw the rise of smartphones with 240W charging. Theoretically, this is the limit of the current USB Type-C technology, but brands are already trying to break these barriers. Meanwhile, we have Samsung and Apple keeping their safe approach when it comes to fast charging. It’s not a surprise to see that coming from Apple, after all, the brand is the mother of all conservatives when it comes to smartphone hardware. However, it’s heartbreaking to see Samsung behind in this category. Apparently, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 will keep their disappointingly 25W charging.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 charging speed is disappointing

Samsung is holding the push to fast-charging as much as it can. This year’s Samsung Galaxy S23 series bring 45W charging, and that is the max you get from Samsung smartphones. To compare things, this is what you usually get from modern mid-range smartphones. We know that things tend to be more conservative when we have complex devices like foldable smartphones in mind, but in 2023, there are already foldable with fast charging. It’s disappointing to see that Samsung will not even try offering its 45W charging with the upcoming foldables.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5 have been spotted on the 3C listing. Once again, they will pack Samsung’s EP-TA800 charger that offers only 25W charging. Both SM-F9460 and SM-F7310 will offer the same charging speeds as their predecessors. Although the new phones are expected to be an upgrade, we don’t think this upgrade will be found in the charging department.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5

The Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 will bring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. They will compete in the same segment as the Vivo X Fold2, which is the only advantage of being globally available. The X Fold2 brings 120W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Samsung still has the advantage of being one of the few brands that have foldable smartphones in most of the world’s markets. However, the competition is coming. The Honor Magic Vs that launched earlier this year has 66W charging which is twice the Z Fold4 and 5 offer.

Despite the charging, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 will introduce a new droplet hinge design. This new mechanism will hide the screen crease that plagued previous generations. The Galaxy Z Flip5 will also include a larger 3.3 to 3.4-inch display.

The competition is intensifying, and Samsung needs to keep its offerings relevant. Otherwise, they will lose their position in this market, that even Google is set to join soon.
