Hello follow PH's,

FlightList was originally launched as a web app in 2018 where it got the #2 spot of the day and #4 of the week. It's been going steady since then with zero paid ads, just referral and returning traffic. Here's a few interesting numbers from the last 5 years:

🧍 31% returning daily visitors ⏱️ 5:15min average time spent on site 🔥 0.7% conversion rate (~2.5x the industry average for online travel agencies) 📈 User traffic fully recovered from pandemic with 150% growth from pre-pandemic numbers

Why build a mobile app? Considering ~50% of users are visiting on mobile devices and the vast distribution network the app stores provide, I thought it would be a good idea to build and test a mobile app and get feedback from users.

Why Android? I used the new Progressive Web App (PWA) technology to build the Android app which has several interesting benefits: One code base for web and mobile, less development time, easier to update, smaller app download size and faster user experience. Google was the first to adopt the Progressive Web App technology in the Google Play Store so I thought I would start there. PWA's still require a "wrapper" to publish to the Google Play store so I used PWABuilder to generate an .aab file. It's pretty easy and straight-forward, if anyone has questions about building a PWA or lunching on the app store feel free to comment below and I'll be happy to answer your questions.

Key features of FlightList's Android app: • Minimal one-page user interface • List-style search results, with options to filter by airline, price, and more • Search by date range (7, 30, 60, 180 days or custom range) • Search departure and destination by airport, city, country, or continent

Why I originally built FlightList back in 2018: It was a response to a personal frustration while traveling from the Netherlands to Ukraine in 2017. I wasn’t in a hurry to leave; I had two tabs open on my browser and kept switching between Google Flights and Skyscanner and picking different dates. After an hour I finally booked a flight. If I had FlightList at the time, I would’ve discovered flights leaving from Eindhoven were 50% cheaper than Amsterdam and would’ve taken me less than a minute to find. I knew if I solved this problem for myself, I’d solve it for fellow travelers who have similar frustrations with traditional flight booking sites.

I will eventually build an iOS app but first want to get feedback and comments on the Android app so I can improve it and provide a better user experience before launching to the iOS store.

If you have an Android device I would love to get your feedback or you can also try the web app and give me your feedback on that as well.
