Exynos 2500 to arrive with a Samsung Mobile GPU

Exynos 2500

Samsung decided to put the Exynos chipset division on hold when it comes to the flagship segment. For this year, the company is using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy on its Galaxy smartphones. The company will likely keep this partnership for one more year with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. However, it seems that Samsung is preparing a comeback for the Exynos. Unlike previous reports, Samsung does not seem to be rebooting its chipset division. This is some sort of “soft reboot” where the Exynos chips will return in 2025. As per a new report, the company is preparing big changes for the future Exynos 2500.

Exynos 2500 will bring a custom Samsung GPU that uses AMD technology

The most notable evidence of a comeback came recently. Samsung renewed its partnership with AMD to bring mobile RDNA GPUS to smartphones. That was a surprise, after all, the Exynos 2200 had the Xclipse 920 GPU that uses the RDNA2 architecture but was a disappointment. Samsung did not blame AMD and will keep this partnership going forward. However, it seems that the Exynos 2500 will bring a custom GPU from Samsung with a focus on optimization.

The tipster Revegnus states that the Exynos 2500 is the so-called “dream chip” that the brand is working on. It will determine the future of this division. It will bring a custom GPU, but that should still use part of AMD’s technology. To those unaware, this is not the first time we hear about a custom GPU. Samsung has been secretly working on it, and will now take advantage of this licensing agreement with AMD.

Exynos

It may sound exciting to some, but this probably is still a few years away. According to a report, the Exynos 2500 will come after an Exynos 2400. There is no exact forecast for this chipset. Although the Exynos 2300 was expected for this year, we don’t know if the Exynos 2400 will come in the next. It seems that Samsung will keep up with the Snapdragon for Galaxy with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

Whenever it comes, Samsung will need to prove that its Exynos chip is good against the competition. The Exynos division has been failing for years, and for some consumers, it was a relief to have only Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered Galaxy flagships. For years, customers in certain regions were proved to Exnyos-only flagships. It will be hard to convince these consumers to return to the former tradition.

Gizchina News of the week

The specs of the Exynos 2300 can tell us about the future

The Samsung Exynos 2300 probably was slashed in advanced levels of development. We believed in this chipset’s arrival until November 2022, when Qualcomm was the first to announce Snapdragon 8 Gen2-only Galaxy flagships in 2023. Samsung took a few weeks to confirm that, apparently, the Korean firm was not happy but had no other choice. The development of the Exynos 2300 was put on halt, but the specs of this CPU have leaked. Interestingly, the Exynos could use a Nona-Core architecture rather than the Octa-Core design used by the competition.

As per leaked kernel info, the Exynos 2300 features the Quadra codename and adopts the 1 + 4 + 4 core design. It would bring 4 performance cores, 4 efficiency cores, and 1 Cortex-X3 big core. This would be a rather unusual, but interesting design. It has been a while since the last time we saw a mobile chipmaker going beyond the Octa-Core design.

A few years ago, MediaTek tried the Deca-Core chips but failed and put its flagship chipset division on hiatus. After months of planning, the Taiwanese brand was able to bring powerful flagship SoCs. Samsung is now basically the same. It put its Exynos division on hold, to plan and overcome the issues of the Exynos 2200. Will we see a successful comeback in the days of the Exynos 2500? Time will tell us.

There are some reports indicating that Samsung can use the Exynos 2400 in the next year. For now, we will need to wait for an official statement.
