Social Media Vlogger Growth Experiments with Glasses ๐๐๐
Did a bit of data science today to figure out which sunglasses out of my collection result in more 15s video views across
@OfficialJoshApp @YouTube and @instagram
And actually FOUND some actionable patterns!
๐ So as a daily blogger and newly minted daily vlogger I have a random collection of sunglasses from which I pick with a voice assistant 20D roll ๐ฒ
Some are cheapo corporate glasses, some are Halloween costume leftovers prescription and ofcourse cycling glasses And I had data
What I wanted to know was:
1. Are glasses affecting views?
2. Are there some glasses consistently outperforming others?
3. Does wearing glasses get me more views than not wearing glasses?
4. Do sunglasses perform better than clear?
5. Should I get rid of some glass entirely?
To figure this out I simply counted up the view counts for each use of sunglasses across the 5 accounts and then found the average by adding them up and dividing by the total # of videos those glasses had on that platform
I made some assumptions and some data wasnโt perfect
As soon as I put the averaged totals specific patterns jumped out at me! ๐
๐ฒ Wood-style and green-sided glasses consistently ranked on the bottom half ๐ฅ
๐ Also not wearing glasses consistently ranked me in the middle below some shades proving I should wear em ๐
JUMP glasses and a pair of cheap glasses with ๐ pink temples consistently ranked at the top with my super expensive @oakley cycling glasses! ๐ดโโ๏ธ
Same thing with aviators, especially the blue ones I bought for a
Halloween costume ๐
Unsurprisingly glasses w/o tinted lenses performed worse than tinted My bet is that its more noticeable when I forget to look at the camera in those as per why
says he wears his ๐
What WAS surprising is that the 2 red pairs of glasses rose to the top on red branded YouTube ! โฅ
In the end I paired down 22+ glasses to 13 that performed best according to real world data!
I also demonstrated to myself that the process works and is reproducible for pairing down glasses further
The BIG question in my mind is if 1 pair of glasses is best for recognition? ๐ค
