iPhone 15 / Pro series eSIM version will be available in more countries

iPhone 14 Pro Max vs iPhone 15 Pro Max

The Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models could debut in France this year without SIM card trays. This new info is coming from French media, MacGeneration. This means that these devices will only support eSIM (Embedded SIM) cellular networks.

Since Apple often sells the same iPhone model across most of Europe, if the SIM tray is gone in the French market, it is likely to be removed in at least some other European nations as well. As an example, the same iPhone 14 Pro with model number A2890 that is sold in France is also available in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and other nations/regions.

iPhone 15 / Pro series eSIM may be widespread in Europe soon

In order to activate cellular service without using a physical nano-SIM card, users must use eSIM. This is a digital SIM that Apple disabled from all iPhone 14 series phones sold in the US market last Sept. The carriers that support eSIM tech are listed in a support document from Apple.

According to Apple, eSIMs are more secure than Physical SIMs. This is because they can not be taken out of a lost or stolen iPhone.  The need to buy, carry, and change physical SIM cards when travelling is gone, according to Apple. This is because up to eight eSIMs can be handled in the iPhone’s Settings app. Two eSIMs can be active at once on iPhone 13 and newer models.

According to a previous TechhInsights report, eSIM will boost mobile phone sales by 15% annually by 2023. The iPhone will still rule the eSIM mobile phone market in 2023. However, its market share will actually decline to 65%. This is due to rising rivalry from other mobile phone brands. The latest SIM cards, known as eSIM or eUICC, allow users to switch between service provider profiles over the air (OTA) without having to replace the SIM card itself.
