AI has also reached the fashion industry. It turns out that there are AI companies systems that can generate models for fashion companies. What’s more, some top brands are already working with them. For example, we learned from Engadget that Levi’s is working with such a company as part of its “digital transformation journey.” In simple terms, AI generates looks on imaginary models while freeing itself from the burden of paying for real human models.

Levi’s + AI = The Future Of Fashion

Levi’s and Amsterdam-based digital modeling studio Lalaland.ai joined forces years ago when the latter was founded in 2019. The AI company’s mission is “to create an inclusive, sustainable, and diverse design chain.” It allows average customers to see how fashion items will look on a person who looks like them. The “hyper-realistic” models “of every body type, age, size, and skin tone” show the actual appearance of these items. So the customers can now make the right choices.

Levi’s, for its part, said the partnership was about “increasing the number and diversity of models for our products in a sustainable way. We see fashion and technology as both an art and a science. We’re excited to partner with Lalaland.ai, a company with such high-quality technology that can help us continue our journey towards a more diverse and inclusive customer experience.”

Levi’s is clear that AI can’t replace human models for them. But it is the first step in terms of bringing AI to this niche. On the other hand, the fashion company agrees that they don’t need to hire a lot of people and spend a lot of hours working with them to get those outstanding posters and photos we used to see.

Incidentally, Levi Strauss has already begun a 12- to 19-month process of cutting around 800 jobs. If you think that’s a small number compared to other mass layoffs we’ve heard about, it’s almost 20% of the company’s workforce. But the move will save the company around $75-100 million a year.
