Twitter is making changes to its Verification program. Which gives accounts a blue tick to indicate that they are authentic and notable. Starting April 1, Twitter will be winding down its legacy Verification program and accounts that were verified under the previous criteria (active, notable, and authentic) will not retain a blue checkmark unless they are subscribed to Twitter Blue.

This means that accounts that were previously verified under the old criteria will need to subscribe to Twitter Blue. And meet the eligibility criteria to receive or retain the blue checkmark. The blue checkmark indicates that the account has an active subscription to Twitter Blue and meets Twitter’s eligibility requirements.

To receive or retain the blue checkmark, an account must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Complete: The account must have a display name and profile photo.
• Active use: The account must be active in the past 30 days to subscribe to Twitter Blue.
• Security: The account must be older than 90 days upon subscription and have a confirmed phone number.
• Non-Deceptive: The account must have no recent changes to the profile photo, display name, or username (@handle), signs of being misleading or deceptive, or signs of engaging in platform manipulation and spam.

Twitter will review the Twitter Blue subscribed account to determine if it meets the eligibility criteria. If it does, the blue checkmark will appear on the account.

Twitter may remove the blue tick of an account at any time. And this without notice, if it violates the Twitter Terms of Service or Twitter Rules. Or if it manipulates Twitter processes, or circumvents enforcement actions. Changes to the profile photo, display name, or username will result in a temporary loss of the blue tick. Until the account gets validation as continuing to meet Twitter’s requirements.

If an account violates the Twitter Terms of Service or Twitter Rules, it may result in the loss of the blue tick or suspension.

Twitter also states that individuals who are not permitted to have dealings with Twitter in the US and any other applicable economic sanctions and trade compliance law can not purchase Twitter Blue.
