LinkedIn is now implementing ChatGPT to help users with profiles and job postings

Microsoft Corp.-owned LinkedIn has become the latest platform to embrace the recent AI boom, announcing today that it has begun “leveraging the most advanced OpenAI GPT models.”

This comes as no surprise since Microsoft has invested heavily in OpenAI LP. LinkedIn has, of course, been using artificial intelligence in one way or another for a long time, but now it wants to give its 134.5 million active monthly users and 900 million members the ChatGPT experience to help them put words into coherent sentences. LinkedIn promises this will “unlock opportunities and elevate your career.”

The company said today that for 15 years, it has been automating processes that function as a “matchmaker” to help people connect. Now with GPT 4 on board, users can let the AI scan their profiles, and it will come up with an attractive piece of writing for the “about” section while creating a standout “headline.”

One of the first doubts that spring to mind is that a semi-illiterate person could come across as an able writer or that profiles might start to sound generic. LinkedIn added that while the AI will do the “heavy lifting” that “saves you time and energy,” the customization part is still important.

The company says this feature is rolling out today but only for premium users who are “some of LinkedIn’s most active members.” These early users will provide feedback so that the experience will “evolve.”

Although that feature will leverage GPT-4, LinkedIn will use GPT-3.5 to help companies and people looking to hire talent to write job descriptions. LinkedIn says all people need to do is provide some very basic information about their company and the job they’re posting, and the AI will do the rest — again, with the assumption that the person will then edit the description to their liking.

LinkedIn says it’s also helping its users to “stay ahead of the curve” where the AI explosion is involved. It will post about 100 AI learning courses until the middle of this year, helping people who have perhaps let the technology pass them. The courses, free to everyone who has a LinkedIn account, will include “What is Generative AI,” “Introduction to Prompt Engineering for Generative AI” and “Introduction to Conversational AI.”
