PS6: Sony officially confirms the Release Date of its Next Gen Console

Sony launched the PlayStation 5 in November 2020 with very limited stock due to lack of components. The PS5 stock remained limited for a couple of years until late 2022. Due to this, most users were able to purchase the console only a few weeks back. Releasing a new console anytime soon may not go too well for Sony since a lot of PS5 owners are new owners.

Nevertheless, Sony has plans for the PS6 console and we have come across the date that the company plans to launch the next generation gaming console. Sony has recently made official some documents that shows that the PS5 will not reign for quite long. In fact, the PS5 may have the shortest lifespan of any PS console since the launch of PS1.

PS5 May Have a Shorter Lifespan Because of PS6

PS6

Looking back from the days of the original PlayStation to the release of the PS3, you could realize that each PS console has a lifespan of 11 to 13 years. The most recent consoles the PS4 and the PS5 are still available for sale since 2013 and 2020 respectively.

Gizchina News of the week

Sony has recently released a set of documents that were supposed be confidential. You may wonder why Sony had to make these documents available. Well, all thanks to the UK’s Competition Market Authority (CMA) on its investigation of Microsoft’s attempt to acquire Activison Blizzard. Such documents are confidential documents but due to the ongoing investigation, Sony has to make them public.

Sony Will Launch the PS6 in 2027

PS6

In as much as there are a lot of rumors about the PlayStation 6, it looks like we may not see it anytime soon. Sony has claimed that Microsoft will continue to make Activison games available to the PlayStation platform till 2027. This can also confirm that Sony will release a new edition in 2027.

A section of Sony’s documents reads “By the time SIE launched the next generation of its PlayStation console (which is likely to occur around [blacked out]). It would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles, making it extremely vulnerable to consumer switching and subsequent degradation in its competitiveness.”

In the documents, the official release date of the PS6 is blacked-out but making some deductions from the information, you could easily know that the PS6 will only launch after 2027.

This also shows that the PS5 will enjoy its reign for about 7 years. It is worth noting that Sony launched the PS5 seven years later after the launch of the PS4. Therefore, launching the PS6 somewhere in 2026 will make the seven-year time frame stay on course.
