Dynamic Island won’t get any smaller before 2025
The Dynamic Island is here to stay. At least for a few more years, anyway.

The iPhone screen cutout allegedly won’t shrink next year, despite a previous report that under-display Face ID would be implemented in 2024.
Looks like the Dynamic Island will be around for years to come.
Expect a long visit to iPhone Dynamic Island
The iPhone 14 Pro models converted the screen notch into cutout. Apple dubbed it the “Dynamic Island” because the space is also used for notifications.
An unconfirmed report from January indicated that the Face ID sensors would be moved below the screen in the iPhone 16 Pro in 2024. They’d be able to scan users’ faces through the LCD, allowing the size of the display cutout to shrink considerably.
But a reliable source of Apple insider information threw cold water on the idea on Thursday. Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, said in a tweet that “Under panel Face ID is now expected to be pushed at least a year to 2025 or later due to sensor issues.”
Young has sources in the companies that make Apple displays. They have, in the past, enabled the analyst to make very accurate predictions about Apple’s future products. If he’s correct again, then the Dynamic Island will be around until at least the iPhone 17.
Still not the end of the iPhone screen cutout
While there’s a possibility that the Face ID sensors will move below the screen in 2025, that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the Dynamic Island.
An opening for the front-facing camera supposedly will remain. It’s proving difficult to make an under-display camera that takes top-quality pictures and doesn’t also leave a visible mark on the screen.
In the mean time, All four of the iPhone 15 models coming in autumn reportedly will include the feature in place of the old notch (aka the “static peninsula”).
