Chrome extension starter templates and examples

Sort by:

Hey Product Hunt 👋

@chrismessina , thanks for hunting me!

ExtensionKit (previously ChromeExtensionKit) is a large and ever growing collection of Chrome Extension starter and example templates so you can skip the boilerplate and launch your next extension faster. Whether you're new to extension development or experienced, the kit is meant to save you time by providing a large number of common extension starting points and use cases that you can hit the ground running with.

Previously it was a singular digital download, but now ExtensionKit is an entire platform where you can manage and download templates easier than ever. There is a lot of planned additions in the coming months (Vue.js templates, Firefox support, and more), but some current highlights are:

🎉 20+ React Starter Templates (with utility scripts)

These templates are built with React (and optionally TypeScript). They come loaded with additional development tools such as auto reloading of the extension environment. Prior React experience is beneficial for these.

🎉 9+ HTML/JS/CSS Starter Templates

These template consist of vanilla HTML, CSS, and JS. There are no additional development tools included, however they are the easiest set of templates to get started with.

🎉 4 Fully Functional Example Extensions

Source code of three fully functional and feature complete Chrome extensions for reference or inspiration, including extensions currently live in the web store with thousands of active users.

🎉 Ebook with Growth Tips and Tricks (Free)

Explains how to use the kit and the example extensions, a guide on prepping your extension for production and publishing to the web store, and tips and tricks on growing your extension.

Please let me know what you think in the comments and feel free to browse the current collection of templates! Also, if you were one of the previous 600+ developers that purchased ChromeExtensionKit, you can migrate your account over to the new platform in a single step.
