Nothing Phone 2

The Nothing Phone (2) teaser campaign came out at the MWC Barcelona event. Although the teaser was a little vague and only talked about how soon fans can expect the phone, a new post from a Qualcomm exec confirmed the phone’s specs. And out of all the places, the exec decided to give us a major leak on LinkedIn.

So, the leak was about the chipset that the Nothing Phone (2) is going to come with. And the leak comes from Alex Katouzian, who plays the role of SVP and GM of Qualcomm’s Mobile, Compute, and XR units. According to him, the upcoming device will not feature the highest-end SoC.

Nothing Phone (2) Will Feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

On the professional networking platform, Qualcomm exec congratulated Nothing for its upcoming Phone (2) launch. And in the post, the exec explicitly mentioned that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 would power the device. While the current flagships are rolling out with the 8 Gen 2, the brand-new Nothing phone will stick with a last-gen chipset.

Original unedited post

The exec might have eventually realized that he should not be posting hardware details about the Nothing Phone (2) this early. And that made him edit the post and put powered by “Snapdragon 8 series SoC” instead.

Gizchina News of the week

Nonetheless, the Phone (2) might not be shooting its shot for being among the flagships of this year. Instead, it might be aiming to be a flagship killer. And yes, even though the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is a last-gen chipset, it does offer great performance.

Nothing Phone 2

Of course, the Phone (2) will not win any benchmarks if it does come with an 8+ Gen 1. However, you will not notice the difference if you are not doing any resource-intensive tasks. And hopefully, Nothing will price it accordingly, which will make it offer more value than the current flagships.
