Reach a wider audience and grow more on this platform.

If you’re a designer looking to expand your reach and connect with a larger audience, you may be wondering if it’s possible to make money from your writing skills.

A good approach to doing this is by publishing articles on Medium.

However, it might not be sufficient to just submit content to the site.

In this article, we’ll discuss how to use Medium’s features to connect with a larger audience in the design community, how to improve your Medium articles for optimal visibility and response, and how to use an opportunity to make money in the process.

By following these tips, I made over $5000, and you can also achieve the same:

#1 Use relevant tags

Each article you publish on Medium can have up to five tags.

These tags assist in classifying your article and aid in its discovery by readers.

Consider the words and phrases people could use to search for content similar to yours when selecting tags.

But that’s a slow approach and not very effective.

Instead, you can use tags, which are the most popular in your niche.

For example, I use the “design” tag in my articles, which helps me become a top writer in the “design” category.

Which gives it additional boost and visibility.

#2 Share on social media

You can expand the exposure of your articles beyond the readers of Medium by promoting them on social media networks.

Provide a concise description and a link to your Medium piece when distributing your content on social media.

To expand your audience, you can also join design-related social media groups and share your content there.

I share my content on Twitter, which helps me get more reach. And I share my design-related content on Instagram.

#3 Engage with other writers and readers

Engagement is key to building a following.

Don’t forget to reply to reader comments on your articles and interact with other authors by leaving comments on their work.

This will support your relationship-building efforts and draw in new readers.

#4 Write for publications

Writing for a publication can help you reach a larger and more targeted audience.

Choose publications that are appropriate for your niche by doing research, then send your content there.

Read the publication’s submission rules carefully, and then adjust your proposal to fit their target audience and writing style.

I submit my articles to UX Planet Publication.

#5 Collaborate with other writers and designers

You may gain more visibility on Medium and draw in new readers by collaborating with other writers and designers.

Think about cooperating on writing projects with other authors or designing projects with other designers.

Also, you can use this to network and pick up tips from individuals in your field.

I wrote a few collaborative articles last year. For example, this is one of the articles in the collaborative one. “Tips for Consistency in UI Design

#6 Optimize your headlines and descriptions

Make sure your article’s headline and description are clear, precise, and attention-grabbing since these will be the first things readers will notice.

Focus on the value that readers will receive from reading your post, and use powerful, action-oriented words.

You should briefly describe the things the article covers and the benefits of reading it in your description.

To determine which headlines and descriptions work best, you can also experiment with several variations.

Conclusion

Always write consistently and look for fresh opportunities to interact with your audience and promote your posts.

With these tips in mind, you may use Medium as a strong tool to increase your audience reach as a designer.

#Bonus, I get a good amount from the referral membership as well.
