Apple’s M3 iMac might ship in second half of 2023

Apple’s new iMac could launch in the second half of 2023. The machine is currently in an advanced development stage.

While the upcoming iMac will retain the same 24-inch display, Apple will make some internal layout changes.

New iMac has entered the EVT development stage

In his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reveals Apple’s next iMac refresh has entered the engineering validation testing (EVT) stage. As a part of this phase, Apple is conducting test production of the machine. Despite this, the upcoming iMac will reportedly not enter into mass production in the next three months.

Due to this, the new iMac could now only launch in the second half of 2023 at the earliest. Before this, though, Apple could announce the new Mac Pro and 15-inch MacBook Air at WWDC23.

Apple’s next iMac could feature the M3 chip

The iMac was last refreshed with a sleek new design, an M1 chip, and bold new colors in April 2021. For the 2023 refresh, Apple is not expected to introduce any significant design changes. The report says the 24-inch display and the color options should remain unchanged.

Apple might make some internal changes to the new iMac. It also plans to change the manufacturing process of attaching the stand to the display. However, these modifications are unlikely to benefit the consumer in any meaningful way.

Internally, the next iMac refresh should use Apple’s 3nm M3 chip. The same SoC could also power the 2023 13-inch MacBook Air refresh. Compared to the M2 chip, M3 should introduce a bigger jump performance and efficiency.

It is unclear if Apple intends to offer the iMac with a faster M3 Pro chip, as it has done with the 2023 Mac mini refresh.
