Gboard is about to get an innovative AI-powered feature

Google Gboard

Despite its “AI-first” slogan, Google has failed to lead an AI revolution. That may sound harsh, but the fact is that Google missed the opportunity to become what OpenAI is today. I’m not comparing the two companies, because the Alphabet-owned company is bigger and has more resources. However, it was the “little” OpenAI that started a revolution with its ChatGPT. With the rise of the company’s chatbot, Microsoft invested billions of dollars in the company in a win-win partnership. Now Bing, powered by ChatGPT, is poised to take the lead in search platforms unless Google moves fast. The company is racing against time to push its AI products, and it seems that AI is finally becoming the real focus of Google’s ecosystem. According to a new report, Google Gboard will be one of the company’s products to get AI features.

Google Gboard will soon get some AI-powered Imagen text-to-image generator

As per a new report, Google plans to bring the very useful Imagen text-to-image integration to Gboard. In a recent APK teardown by the folks at 9to5Google, the latest beta version of Gboard has lines of code that mention an “Imagen Keyboard”. According to the outlet, this “Imagen” feature will appear somewhere in the shortcut bar or page. It’s the same place as the clipboard and one-handed mode. Curiously, Google recently introduced some changes to the design of Gboard. These changes clearly indicated the arrival of more features.

Gizchina News of the week

Gboard

Although this is work-in-progress, it’s great to see that Gboard will soon become more powerful. Of course, there is no timeline for the arrival of such a feature. We expect to hear more details about it during the Google I/O in May.

Imagen Gboard

Imagen is similar to the text-to-image generator DALL-E 2. Surprisingly or not, it’s owned by OpenAI. DALL-E can create images based on the request you submit to it. If we compare both platforms, a lot of users tend to prefer Imagen’s results. Considering this, adding it to Google Gboard may be the right move for Google. We are eagerly waiting for more news in this regard.
