Why You Should Study Artificial Intelligence

Robot pointing its head, Artificial Intelligence concept

For quite a long time, we have contended that human intelligence cannot be replaced. However, as time goes by and technological innovations continue, machines are improving at simulating human intelligence processes. Whether we talk about speech recognition or self-driving automobiles, a whole world of activities is now affected by the use of Artificial Intelligence or simply called AI. Many things operate on AI today, and we don’t even realize that. Imagine how mammoth its impact will be in the coming future!
AI is a rage. We don’t have to understand it in detail to determine its impact on the global order. Universities have begun introducing courses on AI and have been attracting a sizeable chunk of interested students. After all, AI is the future! Of course, some embellished statements about AI may not be persuasive enough for you. So, read along, and you will know why you should strongly consider studying AI.

  1. Of course, a bright career ahead
A degree in AI is a means to a favourable end: an excellent career growth chart. If you are new to AI, you don’t have an inkling of how big the market for AI is right now. A forecast reportedly pegs AI’s Compound Annual Growth Rate at 39.7% in 2020, equivalent to $309.6 billion. These figures alone are sufficient to paint a rosy picture of those who venture into AI. On average, you can earn as much as $200,000 today, but the stakes will be higher in the near future. Companies such as Alphabet, Tesla, and Amazon are already actively experimenting with the potential and limits of AI, and they need professionals to pace up the work.

  2. A universe of career roles
When I say you will get to work with AI, I try to simplify the overly expansive nature of AI. When you sign up for a course in AI, you will be introduced to an entire universe of wonderful career roles you can take up. To name a few, you can become a big data engineer who is essentially responsible for developing a secured ecosystem for business operations, a Business Intelligence Developer who analyses data sets and applies them for the benefit of business, a Data Scientist who makes predictions and suggestions based on the data collected pertaining to numerous issues, a Machine Learning Engineer who works with machines and ensures the smooth operations of their AI component, and a Research Scientist who undertakes investigative research into the applications of AI. What I just mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg; there is so much you can become in AI. In fact, more professional roles are expected to emerge as we keep experimenting with AI.

  3. Universities are going Gaga
Higher Education has left no stone unturned to exploit the potential of AI. Many elite universities all over the world have introduced popular degree programs in AI and related disciplines. You will find the names of the best of the best in this race. These include Carnegie Mellon University, the University of California-Berkeley, Harvard University, the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Amsterdam. Many of these universities have set up centres and institutes on AI and have already picked up projects funded by who’s who in the world. Governments are especially monitoring the academic response to AI and how the results could be used to implement their policies.

  4. AI is the future
We don’t know yet whether the future will be straight out of those dystopian novels or simply an improved, highly convenient life closer to the definition of utopia. Well, we cannot know right now. What remains a fact is that AI is indeed the future. With so much flowing in from businesses and governments across the globe, AI is permeating our lives in an unprecedented fashion. Unsurprisingly, AI is becoming the most important skill you can have in the 21st century. Just hop on the bandwagon and become a part of a transformative future that will be nothing less than a revolution of its own.
