Meta Follows Twitter’s Lead, Launches Blue Tick Verification Monthly Subscription for Facebook and Instagram

They say the rich will keep getting richer right? This statement is one statement you just can’t afford to argue about. You do remember when Apple to made more money from us by taking out the chargers from the iPhone boxes. The moment Apple did that, other manufactures also followed, and it suddenly looks normal.

A similar occurrence is what we are witnessing from Twitter and Meta. Twitter’s decision to charge some amount of money every month for verification badge received a lot of criticisms from users and the media. Many tried to oppose the action by threatening to move to different platforms. Twitter still went ahead to impose monthly charges on blue badge verifications and the platform is still doing fine.

This seems to have triggered a wakeup call for Meta as the Facebook owned company has decided to implement similar charges on check mark verifications.

Meta Has Announced its own Monthly Subscription for Blue Tick Verification

CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the company plans to offer subscription plan for account verification. Users will require a government issued ID to get a verified blue check mark on Facebook and Instagram. He also said that verified accounts will have direct access to customer support.

This verification is dubbed “Meta Verified” and will cost $11.99 per month for subscribers who purchase on the web. For those who purchase through the Facebook or Instagram on the iOS platform, they will pay $14,99 due to Apple’s 30% commission.

When will Meta Verification Roll Out?

Meta Verified will not start rolling out to the global users immediately. Meta will first begin with Facebook in regions such as Australia and New Zealand this week, then gradually spread to other parts of the world.

In the announcement, Zuckerberg said the new verification is meant to enhance authenticity. What makes Meta’s verification a bit different from that of Twitter is that Meta requires a government ID in order to verify.
