Windows 11: Microsoft is Working to Crackdown on Low-End Computers

Microsoft released the Windows 11 operating system in late 2021 with revamped interface a lot of exciting new features. The worlds popular desktop operating system got a number of minor updates since then. However, it got a major update in 2022. A year after the last major update, Microsoft is said to be working on another major update for the Windows 11 operating system. This update is tipped to launch this year.

The launch of Windows 11 OS came as an exciting news for many users around the world, but things began to take a twist the moment system requirement for the new OS came out. Per the system requirements, a lot of users using some old or low-end computers could not install the Windows 11 Operating System.

Microsoft Wants Users to Upgrade their PCs Before Using Windows 11

Despite the higher system requirements, many users around the world have been able to install the operating system on computers with lower specs. It is very possible to install the operating system on unsupported desktops even though it is not recommended. This does not mean Microsoft is happy about it. The Washington based company wants you to upgrade your PC to a more powerful and recent one.

Running Windows 11 on unsupported devices run smoothly without any problem. Microsoft still pushes security updates to these computers. However, Microsoft wants to crackdown on unsupported devices by displaying a watermark on the screen.

Microsoft started this in the January 2023 update. Users who updated their unsupported PCs to the Windows 11 22H2 began to see a watermark that says, “System requirements not met”. This came in the production package, not insider preview package.

According to a post on a Feedback Hub, this seems to be A/B test version. Which means only some users will see it after installing the January 2023 patch on their systems. Some affected users have come out to express themselves about this new action Microsoft has taken.

Affected Windows 11 Users Have Reacted

“Windows 11 was preinstalled when I got the device. I have been using it for more than a year. But “System requirements not met” suddenly appeared on my device, telling me to “Go to settings to learn more”. This watermark is displayed just above the taskbar,” one of the affected users said.

“I bought my pc in 2021 with Windows 11 preinstalled, and it has worked fine. As of today, though, I received the “System requirements not met. Go to Settings to learn more.” And it stated my pc is incompatible with Windows 11 now,” Another user said.

Microsoft has already tested this feature last year but from all indications, it will surely come to the general public this year.
