Twitter users only see tweets from Elon Musk after billionaire complains about ‘visibility’

Users complain after Twitter boss said that not enough people were seeing his tweets

Twitter users are complaining they are only being shown Tweets from the website's billionaire owner Elon Musk.

Some accounts on the social network reported only being able to see posts, replies or retweets that had been sent by the company's mercurial owner.

The apparent bug comes just days after Mr Musk, 51, said the company had made changes to fix a "visibility" issue on his profile.

Mr Musk, who has 128m followers on the social network, had complained internally that not enough people were seeing his posts, and demanded engineers fix the issue.

On Sunday, Mr Musk posted that the "significant problem..." was "mostly addressed".

"Following feed was getting overloaded when I tweeted, resulting in up to 95pc of my Tweets not getting delivered at all," he said.

However as of Tuesday morning, some Twitter accounts were reporting only being able to see posts and replies from Mr Musk, a prolific Tweeter, as well as a scattering of adverts.

Mr Musk reportedly fired a Twitter engineer who pointed out that the reach of his Twitter profile was falling because overall public interest in the billionaire was declining. The engineer showed Mr Musk that internet search traffic related to the Tesla owner had been falling since April 2022. The Verge first revealed the sacking.

Twitter has already split its main feed of Tweets in two – offering up a "for you" tab which uses an algorithm to curate a flow of posts – and a "following" tab which only shows posts from accounts chosen by the user.

The company has been hit by a series of bugs and outages in recent weeks following Mr Musk's $44bn (£36bn) takeover.

Since the acquisition, he has sacked more than half of Twitter's staff, leaving only skeleton teams to handle a growing workload fixing software glitches and building a stream of new features.

Last week, some users were blocked from posting with an error message that told them they had hit their "daily limit" for Tweets.
