Lies and the Reason the Accompany History

History.jpg

A comedy called ”The invention of lying” made a lot of people laugh by providing valuable comments about the habit that humans have developed over the centuries. The movie describes a society where lies have not been invented, and everything being stated is the truth.

The concept of humor is entirely different, and there are no jokes in this imaginary society since there are no fiction stories. Imagination is absent, but relationships are less complex. A person accidentally discovers what lying is and uses that to benefit society. This implies that lying is not necessarily a bad thing to do as long as it is used for the proper purpose.

If you think about it, humans are not the only ones who lie. We have all seen a video with dogs that use facial expressions to put the blame on others when their boss asks them who ate the last cookie.

So, developed mammals and clever animals have an idea of what lying means, probably not in the advanced way that humans can conceive the meaning of a lie but enough to confirm that it is a natural phenomenon. There are many aspects regarding this concept, and today we will try to approach the reasons it is so popular and whether it is beneficial in some cases.

  1. You avoid hurting people
One of the most common reasons people prefer to lie is to avoid hurting their beloved ones. Seeing tears coming from a person’s eyes is not the best thing, and some people are very sensitive on their own so handling other people’s sensitivity may be an enormous burden on their shoulders.

Apart from not hurting them, there are not a few cases in which we may even want to protect them. People are not always ready to hear the truth, and telling it to them will not necessarily help them. It may even make them uncomfortable to the point where they practically freeze, and they and they don’t know what their next step should be.

  2. You look better to others
To be honest, another reason people avoid telling the truth is that it is more convenient for them. Being the one who says the bad news is not pleasant. In the old times, people who would go to deliver a message to the king used to be in great danger. The so-called messenger would bring either good or bad news to the king or the queen.

If the news was not satisfying, the king used to order some of his people to behead the messenger. This is an actual fact that often happened in Europe. The lesson learned from this story is that lying is a good choice for some people, and times may have changed but the sense that the person who delivers the bad news is not to be liked is still present even though we do not consciously understand that.

  3. You control the outcome of particular situations.
Depending on the nature of the lie, in some cases, you may be able to manipulate situations that are hard to handle. Your words may affect a person’s decisions, and perhaps it is not always good, to be honest. Forgetting about the rest of the things that have to do with truth and lies, we can reach some solid conclusions.

Having the power to control certain situations is priceless. Besides, inventing a lie is not as simple as it sounds and it needs a lot of your time and effort to do that. If there were no benefits from that people would not use this mechanism.

  4. You can even negotiate better.
The last side of lying, which has to do with the practical part of it, is that lying is also bluffing. Let’s take the simple example that you want to buy something expensive, and you claim that a competitor offers the same product for a lower price.

It is obvious why someone would say that, and this is what we call a white lie. This applies to work in many cases as well. You can negotiate prices or even your salary, and it can prove to be a good skill.
